Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh is a region that beholds lofty mountains, clear sparkling lakes, exquisite gompas, quaint monasteries and rich cultural heritage. It is surrounded by many beautiful lakes out of which Pangong Teng Tso Lake is one of them immersed in splendour and beauty of Mother Nature.

Located 17 km away from the town area, the lake is also known as Ptso Lake. The calm water, silently moving clouds, earth with its wetness, chirping of birds and warmth is all that one gets while visiting Pangong Teng Tso Lake. The lake is well maintained by the Indian Army and offers a soothing and tranquil atmosphere to its visitors. The lake remains frozen in winter and is ideal to visit only in summers. The path towards the lake is laden by bright rhododendron flowers that add to the exquisiteness of the place. One can also find colourful birds while on the lake and engage in some wonderful nature photography.

The name Pangong Teng is derived from Pangong tree whose log was collected by the Tibetan Government until the year 1914.

Lake Pangong Teng Tso or PT Tso is an high altitude lake located in Eastern Himalayan range (Arunachal Pradesh) at an elevation of 13,000 feet ASL. The beautiful lake surrounded by snow capped mountains makes it look enchanting, the serenity offered by it is indescribable. The lake is around 22 km from Tawang town, which comes on the way to Bum La Pass or Lake Madhuri. With out much difficult one can visit the place by 2/4 wheelers except the days when roads are covered with heavy snow. Due to lack of human habitation, it makes it difficult to get basic amenities. It was extremely cold in the month of march, people planning here should carry enough warm clothes to beat the cold. The lake is not directly reachable from the road, one has to get down from the road and trek some distance to reach the lake, there is a path way built around the lake from where you can feel the beauty of the lake. Not to surprise, being close proximity to the border area, occasionally you can hear the sounds of gun firing, which is done part of Army exercise. And Reaching Tawang itself is quite difficult due to the bad roads and high elevation. One needs Inner line permit to reach here. So make proper arrangements if you plan to visit the Nature's masterpiece.

With the backdrop of snow-clad Himalayas and gushing waters of the rivers, Tawang is a tourist paradise and a perfect blend for adventure and religious tourism. So pack your bags and get ready to take a trip to the picturesque Pangong Teng Tso Lake immersed in natural beauty and grandeur and come back with bags full of memories.

The best time to visit Pangong Teng Tso Lake is from April to October. These are summer months and hence all the attractions will be open. Even though its summer, the temperatures are low and weather is pleasant.
